Remote Education: Our Commitment to Learning Anywhere
Very occasionally, due to sudden school closures, there could be the need to engage the children in a remote education. This would take the form of worksheets/ projects sent home or through the use of the google classroom and virtual lessons.
At Woodside, we are committed to ensuring that every student continues to receive a high-quality education, even when they cannot be physically present in the classroom. Our remote education plan is designed to be seamless, supportive, and ambitious, ensuring that no child falls behind.
We aim to provide a "window into the classroom" that maintains a sense of routine and fosters active engagement through a blend of digital and physical resources.
Google Classroom is the central heart of our remote learning offer. It serves as a secure, one-stop shop for all educational needs.
Daily Assignments: Lessons and resources are posted by 9:00 AM each morning.
Live Interaction: We use Google Meet for "live" check-ins or instructional sessions, allowing students to see their teachers and peers.
Feedback Loop: Students can give in work digitally, and teachers provide direct feedback and "next steps" through the private comments feature.
We recognize that every home environment is different and that "screen fatigue" is a real concern. To ensure accessibility for all, we provide physical learning materials alongside our digital offer.
Work Packs: For families with limited internet access or for subjects where tactile work is essential (like Handwriting or Art), we provide printed "Learning Packs."
Collection/Delivery: These can be collected from the school office or, in specific circumstances, delivered to your doorstep.
Blended Approach: Even when using paper copies, we encourage parents to snap a photo of the completed work and upload it to Google Classroom so teachers can track progress and offer praise.
We are dedicated to removing any barriers that might prevent a child from learning at home.
Technology Access: If you do not have a laptop or tablet at home, please contact the office and we can make alternative arrangements.
SEND Support: Our SENCO and support staff work closely with families to provide differentiated tasks and 1-to-1 remote support via Google Meet where required.
Technical Help: If you have trouble logging in or navigating Google Classroom, please email the class teacher who can support
Pro Tip: If your internet is acting up, focus on the paper-based tasks first. The most important thing is that learning continues, regardless of the medium!
If a child is absent for school for a prolonged period of time, for example recovering from an operation, then school will discuss with the parent the best way to ensure remote learning can take place. School is happy to liaise with hospital tutors should that also be necessary.
